Enter the temperature, viscosity, and particle radius into the calculator to determine the diffusion coefficient.

Diffusion Coefficient Calculation Formula

The following formula is used to calculate the diffusion coefficient of particles in a fluid.

Diffusion Coefficient = (Boltzmann Constant * Temperature) / (6 * π * Viscosity * Particle Radius)

Variables:

  • Diffusion Coefficient is the measure of how fast particles diffuse (m²/s)
  • Boltzmann Constant is a physical constant relating energy at the individual particle level with temperature (J/K)
  • Temperature is the absolute temperature of the system (K)
  • Viscosity is the measure of a fluid’s resistance to deformation (Pa·s)
  • Particle Radius is the radius of the diffusing particles (m)

To calculate the diffusion coefficient, multiply the Boltzmann constant by the temperature, then divide the result by the product of
