Diffusion Coefficient Calculation Formula
The following formula is used to calculate the diffusion coefficient of particles in a fluid.
Diffusion Coefficient = (Boltzmann Constant * Temperature) / (6 * π * Viscosity * Particle Radius)
Variables:
- Diffusion Coefficient is the measure of how fast particles diffuse (m²/s)
- Boltzmann Constant is a physical constant relating energy at the individual particle level with temperature (J/K)
- Temperature is the absolute temperature of the system (K)
- Viscosity is the measure of a fluid’s resistance to deformation (Pa·s)
- Particle Radius is the radius of the diffusing particles (m)
To calculate the diffusion coefficient, multiply the Boltzmann constant by the temperature, then divide the result by the product of
