Why is My Quick Add List all Guys?
Adding new friends on social media can be a great way to keep up with what’s going on with your family, friends, colleagues, and even find some new, interesting people that you have things in common with. Some platforms, like LinkedIn, have a Quick Add list that comes up when you are just getting started, to make it easier to quickly add a bunch of contacts that might be useful.
But sometimes, those Quick Add lists can come across as a bit one-sided. For example, I noticed that the Quick Add list on LinkedIn was filled with men, without any women in sight. So why is my Quick Add list only men?
1. Male-Dominated Industries:
One of the main reasons why the Quick List is all guys could be that many of the industries that LinkedIn targets are traditionally male-dominated fields. Industries such as tech, finance, and other corporate are male-dominated, so it’s likely that the Quick Add list is populated by these fields first.
2. Fewer Women Networkers:
Another reason why the Quick Add list is dominated by men could be that there are simply fewer women networking on LinkedIn. Research by LinkedIn found that female professionals are “significantly less likely than men to build out their networks, engaging with 30% fewer contacts than men.”
3. Algorithms Favor Men:
The algorithms that power the Quick Add list may also be more likely to suggest male contacts than female contacts. Some researchers have suggested that algorithms can have a bias towards one gender or another, due to the data that is used to power the algorithm. This means the Quick Add list may be inclined to favor male contacts over female contacts.
What Can I Do to Include More Women?
If you’re concerned that your Quick Add list is too male-dominated, there are some steps you can take to ensure that your network includes more female contacts:
- Personalize Your Search: Rather than going through the pre-compiled Quick Add list, customize your searches to make sure you are including female contacts as well.
- Build Connections: Reach out to female contacts that you know, even if you don’t know them well, to see if they would be interested in connecting.
- Follow Female Leaders: Make sure that you are following inspiring female leaders in your field, so that their posts will show up in your feed.
By taking these steps, you can ensure that your Quick Add list isn’t just dominated by guys, but includes women too. This can take your network in a more positive and diverse direction.
2. Are there any other options than a Quick Add?
Yes, there are other options for creating a Task in Campfire. You can create a task from an existing conversation, or use the “Tasks” tab in your Campfire account to create a task manually. You can also use the “Create a new Task” button at the top right to open a task entry form.
3. Why is my Quick Add only adding male contacts?
The Quick Add feature only adds male contacts, because some software programs are not able to identify the gender of a contact. That being said, if you want to add a specific gender, you can do so manually. To do this, edit the contact’s information by clicking the edit button and manually add their gender.
