Why Does God Not Help Me?
What The Bible Says
What The Bible Says
At times it may feel like God is not there to help us or that He is not listening when we call upon Him. Despite this, the Bible assures us that He is always present and attentive to our needs.
James 1:5-6
- If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
- But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
This passage in James reminds us that we can bring any request we have—even for wisdom–to God in prayer, knowing that He will provide us with an answer.
Passive Faith and Blind Obedience
In the process of seeking God’s help, it’s important to note that faith is not just talking and believing; faith requires that we walk in obedience to the knowledge God gives us.
2 Chronicles 20:20
- Believe in the Lord your God and you will be able to stand firm.
In other words, faith is more than just believing in something; it is taking action. Faith does not require merely that we passively wait for God to take action; rather, faith is being proactive and taking steps to implement what God has provided.
Trust In Him
One big reason why God doesn’t help us may be because we don’t trust Him enough.
Isaiah 12:2
- I trust in the Lord, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?
Rather than worrying about why God isn’t helping us, we should focus on trusting in Him and believing that He is always working on our behalf. The story of Job in the Bible is a great example of how we can remain faithful no matter what circumstances come our way.
Conclusion
At times it can seem like God is not helping us and it can be difficult to understand why. The Bible reminds us, however, that God is always present and attentive to our needs, and that He expects us to take heed of His wisdom and trust in Him, even in the worst of times.
4. What habits or routines can I change to make myself more open to God’s will?
There are many habits and routines you can employ to open yourself more to God’s will. The most important is to develop a daily prayer and meditation practice. Additionally, you can make time for scripture reading and reflection, as well as unplugging from screens, embracing nature, and practicing hospitality. Other habits include listening for God’s still small voice, discerning and trusting inner guidance, connecting with a faith-based community, praying with others, and ministering to people in need.
3. How can I learn to discern God’s answer to my prayers?
The best way to learn to discern God’s answer to your prayers is to start developing a deeper relationship with him. Spend time in prayer, studying the Bible and actively trying to apply biblical principles and teachings to your life, so you can become more closely connected to Him. Over time, with practice and patience, you should be able to discern God’s responses to your prayers, allowing you to be more in tune and aligned with His will.
